Well it is the start of the cruise ship season!
The first cruise ships of the summer season have already arrived into the Bay of Islands for the 2018/19 cruise season.
Welcome ashore to all of the travelers who will visit the Bay of Islands and Paihia on cruise ships.
All our shore based cruise ship tours start and finish at Waitangi Wharf. See some of our tours here.
The Bay of Islands has become one of the most popular cruise ship destinations in New Zealand. It is expected to host over 64 ships in the 2018/19 season which runs from October to April.
The Bay of Islands is a “tender” port. This means that the ships moor offshore and tender their passengers ashore. Mostly this is to Waitangi Wharf where there is a continuous, free shuttle bus service which operates to take passengers into Paihia. Paihia is where most water based activities take place from and it is where the i-site visitor centre is situated. If you do not wish to take the bus then it is a pleasant 20 minute walk along the sea front to reach Paihia.
One of the most popular attractions on cruise ship days is the authentic Art and Crafts market which takes place on the Village Green in Paihia. This is one of the most popular markets of its kind in Northland.
